UNTOLD STORY
IN OUR BLOOD
From the harbours of Buckie to the rugged shores of Gamrie on the east coast of Scotland, the sea has always been part of who we are. Our story begins over fifty years ago with Bob Bain, a fisherman through and through, whose life was shaped by the tides and whose hands knew the weight of nets, lines, and hard-earned catches. His boat, Spes Clara, was more than a vessel – it was a symbol of hard work, and the beginning of a legacy.
When Bob eventually came ashore for the last time, he didn’t leave the industry behind. Instead, he laid the foundations of a fishmonger’s business, built on the same values he had lived by at sea: quality, trust, and deep respect for the catch. That step from boat to business created the roots of what would become a growing family fishmonger enterprise.
That legacy was then carried forward by Ian Clark, who took those foundations and grew them with vision and determination. Ian expanded the business from serving the local area to supplying customers all over Scotland, strengthening relationships and building a reputation for reliability and excellence.
Today, the tradition continues with the next generation. Grandchildren Stephen and Clark have brought fresh energy and modern ideas, expanding the business further across Scotland, the Islands, and throughout the UK. Year after year, they have built upon what came before, while staying true to the values passed down through the family, and continue to be a successful wholesale seafood supplier.
From Gamrie to Buckie, from the deck of the Spes Clara to customers UK wide, the story spans generations. The sea connects them all, and fishing remains in their blood – a living heritage carried forward with pride.
